Austria – Saalbach

So just back from skiing in Austria (was in Saalbach), party apres ski place, yes, is this a big whisky fanciers paradise, well not really, but as with all things, you need to look for the positives. The fresh air, the beautiful scenery and thrill seeking on the slopes. The Alms houses on the slopes are amazing, a great place to stop any time of day, lots of hearty food and the drinking starts early!

Whisky choices are pretty limited, the house brand tends to be Johnnie Walker Black label, which is fine, you can usually find Jack Daniels and occasionally a couple of others, i did find some Makers Mark. The fun though is trying a few new things, so coming straight off the slope to a Hot Chocolate with Rum or Baileys in is the way to start. Many of the Alms Houses have live music, we saw a great live band, mostly made up of Swedes actually, who were dropping in Classic Rock and 80’s specials while the Steins went down. This reflected in some of the Clubs too. You obviously have to try some Schnapps, of which there are many varieties!
